This week, we had the absolute pleasure of chatting with Caitlin from Looma Co. If you haven’t seen her work yet, Looma Co. creates beautiful, eco-friendly baby essentials—including what might just be the best bibs and hooded towels we’ve ever laid eyes on!
We took a deep dive into Caitlin’s creative journey and the “quests” that led her to where she is today. Here’s a little peek into her world.
The Journey
Caitlin has been a creative soul and a mini-entrepreneur for as long as she can remember. As a child, she was constantly tinkering, dreaming up small businesses driven by a pure desire to make things. This passion followed her into adulthood, leading her through various chapters—from a furniture design and refurbishment business in Margaret River to a career in teaching.

But creativity isn’t just something Caitlin does; it’s in her DNA. She reflects fondly on the “generational creativity” that surrounds her. Her father, a skilled woodturner, is a constant source of inspiration—she even still uses a beautiful pen he handcrafted for her years ago.
The Spark
So, how does Caitlin find her “Aha!” moments? For her, there isn’t a rigid method or a secret formula. Instead, inspiration strikes like a sudden, happy urge—sometimes it’s as simple as walking past something interesting or catching a specific feeling in the air.
When that spark hits, she jumps on it, grabbing onto the visualisation and seeing it through to the end. Some projects come together in a flash, while others are revisited time and time again until they are “just right.”
Creative Wellbeing
For Caitlin, working on creative pursuits isn’t just a job; it’s where she finds her truest joy. While running Looma Co. certainly comes with its share of sleepless nights, she’s never been happier. Creating is simply a part of who she is—she wouldn’t know how to be any other way.
Looma Co. has become her ultimate creative outlet, giving her a unique voice and a sense of passion that she says was missing in her previous roles. However, the joy of creating isn’t quite the same if it isn’t shared. Caitlin believes that sharing her work with others is a vital part of the creative practice.
There is a special kind of magic in having a community support your creative dreams. Caitlin remembers being 23 years old and receiving a commission from a Margaret River resort to build custom furniture. To this day, those pieces are still there—a proud reminder of where her journey began and the wonderful results of taking a leap of faith.

Finding “Home” in WA
After living in places like Margaret River and Scarborough, Caitlin has settled in Padbury. She’s finally found her community here, surrounded by like-minded people and a supportive network that drives her creativity. For Caitlin, WA is more than just a place to live; it’s a community she truly calls home.
The Story of Looma Co.
The name “Looma” is a beautiful nod to her craft: it means “to create” in Estonian, with “Ma” representing motherhood and “Loom” referring to the weaving of fabric.
The business actually started because of her son, Jude. He used to refuse every bib on the market until her husband got creative with a tea towel! That “lightbulb moment” led to a solution for messy clothes and eventually, a thriving business
Caitlin “The business is solely to allow me to keep doing the work I love.”

What’s Next?
Caitlin and her business partner, Tara are currently looking into creating a broader range of bibs – travel bibs, long sleeve bibs, modesty bibs for people with a disability and also the elderly citizens. They want to create products that give people their modesty back without looking sterile. They are currently looking to connect with the health and disability sectors to bring this meaningful idea to life.

You can find Looma Co. products on their website, at local markets, or stocked at Sunny & Beau in Fremantle.
